On June 4, 2009, John Raymond Vickers passed away peacefully at the age of 90. Jack, as he was known to his friends and family is survived by his wife of 61 years Patricia, sons David (Rose), Stephen (Melodie), and daughter Sue. He is also survived by six grandchildren, two step grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his eldest son Peter in 1991. Jack was born in Bolton, England in 1919 and served six years in England's Royal Air Force during World War II, for which he received several medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross. In 1947, he married Patricia Vickers and in 1952 immigrated to Canada. Jack enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and retired with the rank of Captain in 1971. His last posting was to Kamloops. He worked for the postal service until the age of 63 at which time he fully retired. Jack enjoyed golfing, curling and singing with his fellow barbershoppers in the Kamloops Rangemen Barbershop Chorus. He will be best remembered for his great dry sense of humour, enjoyment of a good joke and the occasional pint of ale. The family would like to thank the staff of the Pine Grove Care Center for their kindness and support. Additionally, thanks to the staff of the Fox & Hounds Pub, the Sahali Lottery Center and the Sahali Safeway staff, all of whom continued to ask after Jack long after he stopped patronizing the Sahali mall. A Celebration of Life for Jack will be held at the Anavets Club, 444 Tranquille Road, on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers or donations, please look up your best friend and together go out and raise a glass of your favourite beverage in Jack's honour
