MARGARET ELLEN DAVIES June 1, 2009 Margaret Ellen Davies (nee McKee) passed away at the Hamlets in Kamloops on Friday, May 22nd at the age of 96 years. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 14, 1912 she was the eldest of three children. She is survived by her two brothers, Robert McKee and Harold McKee of Winnipeg, daughter Ellen Davies of Salmon Arm, B.C. and son Robert (Salome) of Vancouver B.C. Also to mourn her death are six grandchildren: Shaun, Stefan, and Colleen Davies Iwasawa and Sebastian, Toby and Natasha Geiger-Davies of Vancouver. Margaret is predeceased by her husband Arthur Davies (1997). She will be missed by friends in Kamloops, Barb Lounds, Fran Gillis, and Lloyd Swihart (Smokey) and Nadine Beacock of London, ON. Margaret joined the Canadian Air Force at the beginning of WWII and rose in the ranks of teletype operators to become a supervisor of the teletype unit in Trenton RCAF station. She met and married Flight Sergeant Arthur Davies in 1947. They moved to Ottawa where daughter Ellen and son A.H. Robert Davies were born. Later the couple moved back to Trenton Air Force Base. In 1956 they moved to Kitchener, Ontario. Margaret worked for the Kitchener Public Library from 1962 to her retirement in 1977. She ran the bookmobile that serviced the schools. In 1981 she and Arthur moved to Kamloops where they lived for 28 years. Margaret enjoyed discussing books, particularly biographies. Special appreciation goes to the Shut-In Service of the library. (Sally Heywood-Farmer). Marg was an active member of the United Church. Margaret valued her pets and doted on cats Beau and Missy. A determined, social woman, she held Wednesday 'open house' for friends' visits. The kettle was always on and the fruitcake ready. Thanks go to the staff at the Hamlets, especially the two Angies, Angela and Jennifer. A memorial service will be held in Vancouver in August with interment in the family plot in St. James Anglican Cemetery, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA or Kamloops Library, 100-465 Victoria Street, Kamloops, BC, V2C 2A9.
