DERKSEN, Peter Richard, 88 years old of Swift Current, Saskatchewan passed away August 11, 2012 at Cypress Regional Hospital. The Memorial Service was held at 2pm, August 15 from Zion Mennonite Church with Pastor Herman Wiebe officiating. The pianist was Marion Dueck, the soloist was JoAnn Richert. Tributes and scripture readings were given by his children. Ushers were George Braun, Phil Koethler, Vic Reimer, Pete Dyck. Peter was cremated and his ashes will be interred at the Wymark Cemetery by his family at a later time. Pete is survived by his wife, Ruth (Wiebe) Derksen, children Matt Derksen and wife Elaine (Dueck), Christy (Derksen) Krahn and husband Peter, Julie (Derksen) Lobe and husband Kenton. Grandchildren Esther Derksen, Hannah Derksen, Naomi Derksen, Seth Krahn, Levi Krahn, Sophia Lobe and Simon Lobe. Peter was predeceased by his mother Maria (Dyck) Derksen and father Peter T. Derksen, mother-in-law Agatha Wiebe, brothers-in-law Lindsay Wiebe, Gilbert Wiebe, Kenneth Hodgson and sister-in-law Rhona Wiebe. Peter was born on September 2, 1923 in Wymark, SK. He attended Wymark School and later the University of Saskatchewan. He married Ruth Wiebe on August 5, 1950 in Saskatoon, SK. Peter worked for Farm Credit Corporation from 1958-1980 and farmed from 1942 onwards. In recent years, Peter was active in the Swift Current Senior's Centre and Kiwanis. He loved theology, history, politics and farming. The family would like to thank the staff at Cypress Regional Hospital and Swift Current home care for the care and support he received. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Mennonite Central Committee. Warren's Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
