FONTANA With great sadness we announce the passing of Francesco "Frank" Fontana on April 28, 2009. He leaves behind his wife of 17 years, Leela; sons Pasquale (Karen), Angelo (Donnie), Sandro (Karen) and daughter Rose (Wayne) Mercer; grandchildren Marco (Jen), Riis, Kenny, Frankie, Brylee, Dante; sister Carmela (Fortunato) Vetere; sisters-in-law Usha (K. Munusamy), Leta (Arthur) Betts and in Singapore, Geeta (S. Sudhakaran); nephews Joe, Prasad; nieces Josey (Paul) Fischer, Lucy, Vathsala; grand nephew Noah and other extended family members in Ontario and Italy and numerous friends everywhere. Francesco was predeceased by his parents Pasquale and Rosa Fontana. Francesco was born on August 7, 1936 in Grimaldi, Cosenza, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1966 with his family, settling down in Kamloops. He first worked at Balco Sawmill in Louis Creek, and later at Canadian Forces Base locations in Mt. Lolo and Chilliwack, retiring in 1995. Frank had a great connection with people and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Prayers will be recited at Sacred Heart Cathedral on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at 4:30 P.M. The Reverend Father Vernantius Ononiwu will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at the cathedral on Monday, May 4, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow in the family plot, Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Francesco's memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 1589 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 5V7 or any other charity.
