Barbara Cowie
Date de naissance : 12 mai 1925
Date de décès : 23 août 2012
COWIE, BARBARA IRENE - Barbara Cowie passed away peacefully at the Dr. Everett Chalmers on Thursday, August 23 at the age of 87. Born in Waltham Massachusetts on May 12, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Myrtle (Keefe) and Lawrence Wolfe. Barbara moved to Fredericton at an early age and graduated from the Fredericton Normal School, after which she joined the Canadian Women's Army Corps, serving until the end of WWII. Following her time in the Forces, she obtained her Teaching Certificate from NB Teacher's College and taught elementary school for much of the next 20 years. She was a much-loved teacher in Woodstock, St. Andrews, Fredericton and St. Margarets. Barbara will be remembered not only as a loving family member but as someone who had a deep affection and kinship with animals and nature. Barbara derived great joy from simple, natural things and shared these lessons with all of those around her. Fittingly, she had a lifelong compassion for those who were less fortunate or in need. Deeply loved by family and friends, she was predeceased by her brother William (Buddy) Wolfe and her second husband, Dr. Stuart Cowie. She is survived by her first husband Michael Snow of Fredericton; by two daughters Wendy (Snow) Smith and her husband Stephen Smith of San Diego CA, and Beth (Cowie) Pendleton of Fredericton; a son Timothy and his wife Kathleen (Kerr) Snow also of Fredericton; by four grandchildren, Eric Snow and David Snow, both of Calgary, Tim Snow of Fredericton and Brenton Pendleton of Fredericton; and by a dear cousin, Paul LeBreton of Vancouver. The family's sincere thanks go to staff from the Veteran's Health Unit in Fredericton and the Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as to the staff of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital for their compassion and grace during challenging times.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no funeral; a memorial service for family and close friends is planned for later this year. For those who wish, donations in her name can be made to the Fredericton Community Kitchen or to the local SPCA. McAdam's Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.(458- 9170)
