NEW GLASGOW – Sweedlyn Hurlock Cromwell, 86, Ivey’s Terrace, Trenton, formerly of Waring Avenue and High-Crest Place, New Glasgow, passed away peacefully, August 25, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her family.
Born in Priestville, the last surviving member of her immediate family, she was a daughter of the late Marshall Havelock and Clara (Skinner) (Jewell) Paris. She was a member of Second United Baptist Church, New Glasgow. Sweedie lived out her Christian faith by offering solace and shelter to numerous children. She was respectfully referred to as “mom”, “mamma”, “ma”, “nanny” or “aunt” by those who loved her.
Surviving are sons, Jack Sr., New Glasgow; James (Debbie), Toronto, Ont.; Sheldon (Kathleen) and Shawn, New Glasgow; John Jr., Halifax; Jonathan (Alisha) and Jack Jr.(Rebecca), New Glasgow; daughters, Johanna (Glenn), Shelley (Daniel), Chantelle (Rick) and Tara, New Glasgow; Cathy, Truro; Lolita (Kevin), New Glasgow; Amber (Mathew), Halifax; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carman John Cromwell; sisters, Ida, Violet, Abullias “Jack”, Thelma “Tom” and Normintreal “Minty”; brothers, Coleman, Hector, Francis, Henderson and Fillmore; daughter-in-law, Shirley; grandchildren, Rosita and Carman.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 pm Tuesday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery, New Glasgow.
