Lake, Gladys Leona, age 91, of Ellershouse, Hants County, passed away Monday, August 27, 2012 in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on May 10, 1921 in Belmont Hants County, she was a daughter of the late Henry Otis and Martha Elizabeth (O’Toole) Davis. Gladys had been a nurse’s aid for seventeen years at the Masonic Home in Windsor. She was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Brooklyn; a member of the Avondale United Church Women; Leila Rebekah Lodge#59, Windsor; and the Newport Jolly Seniors. Gladys enjoyed quilting, knitting, bowling, playing cards, going on bus trips and camping. Gladys was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are daughter, Leona (Owen) Greeno, Cheverie, Hants County, six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents, Henry and Martha (O’Toole) Davis; her husband, Charles Norwood Lake (1999); sisters, Nellie Dimock; Elizabeth “Libby” Hope, Mabel Connors; brother, Charles Davis. Cremation had taken place under the care of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. A public graveside service was held 2 p.m. Thursday, August 30, 2012 at the Newport Landing Cemetery, Avondale. Rev. Pix Butts officiated. Donations in her memory were requested to be made to the Canadian Cancer Society; the Newport Landing Cemetery or a charity of one’s choice.
