It is with great regret and sadness that we the family announce the peaceful passing of Catherine Mac Adam on Jan. 12, 2010 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Sydney.
Born in Benacadie, she was the daughter of the late John and Christina (MacNeil) MacLennan.
Kay followed her heart to New York to raise a family. Eventually, she followed it back home.
Kay was an avid reader and traveller who enjoyed lively card games with family and friends. Always close to God, she preformed Eucharistic minister duties at her parish. She welcomed every visitor warmly and her love and spirit filled everyone.
Kay is survived by her children, John Kothe, New York, Linda (Pasquale) Colangelo, New York, Alex Kothe, California; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Gillis, Glace Bay, Theresa Gillis, Sydney, brothers, Neil MacLennan, Sydney, Dan (Isabelle), Benacadie. She is also survived by son-in-law, James Atkinson, New York; grandchildren, Catherine, Tina, Angela, James, Colleen and Karen; great-granddaughter, Deanna as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husbands, Otto Kothe and Francis MacAdam, daughter, Diana Atkinson, sister, Mary Ann and Josephine, brothers, Angus Dan, Malcolm, Alex, Jackie, Mick, Angus ‘Iah’ and Alex in infancy, sister-in-law, Aggie, brothers-in-law, Peter and Alec.
Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 15 at St. Barra Church, Christmas Island, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will take place 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Barra Church, with Fr. Paul Abbass officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
