Laurene Roslyn Thompson (nee Paul)
Our loving mother, wife and friend died on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the age of 83. She was predeceased by her husband Don and parents Earl and Ellen Paul. Born in Springhill, Laurene was a graduate nurse practicing in Halifax, Springhill and Amherst. She was proud of her contribution during the Springhill mining disaster of 1956. For over 20 years she was owner operator of the Thompson Answering Service in Amherst. She was also an active volunteer with Meals On Wheels and the Cumberland County Museum. Laurene was a long time member of the Amherst Garden Club and plants from her extensive perennial gardens have been shared across the province. She generously shared her many creative skills and will be remembered for her wedding cakes, quilts and coffee mornings. Laurene’s six children; Don, Patricia, Barbara, Steven, Stewart, and Judith; her 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren will not forget her love of the beach and family gatherings. Those wishing to honour her memory can send donations to Cumberland County Museum Society, Church Street, Amherst. As per Laurene’s wishes, there will be no formal service following the cremation. However, friends are invited to join her family at a gathering in her honour on Sunday, January 17 from 2 to 4 pm at her home located at 50 Willow Street, Amherst.
