It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of George Neal on Jan. 13, 2010, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers at Highland Manor Enhanced Care Facility in Neil’s Harbour.
Born in Ingonish, Dec. 13, 1926, George was the son of the late John and Florence (Hussey) Neal.
George is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Phyllis of 57 years; his sons, Dwight (Wendy), Robert (Delores), Ingonish; daughter, Sheila (Blair) Nicholson, Brampton, Ont.; sister, Doris MacLean, Langley, B.C. Also left to mourn are his grandchildren, Natasha, Andrew, Shannon and Malcolm.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Leonard and his grandson, Christopher.
George was a fisherman all his life and worked as a snowplow operator with the Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1989. George was a kind and loving man who devoted his life to his family and was never happier when they were all together.
Special thanks to the staff of Highland Manor who became George’s extended family over the past three and one-half years. Their care and love for him will never be forgotten.
Cremation has taken place. At George’s request, there will be no visitation. A funeral service to celebrate George’s life will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church, Ingonish on Jan. 16 at 2:30 p.m.
