George Knockwood
George Leo Knockwood, age 77, of Fort Folly, NB, passed away peacefully at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital in Moncton on Tuesday, August 28, 2012.
Born in Dorchester, NB, he was a son of the late James and Mary (Labobe) Knockwood. After marrying his wife Edith in Bass River, NS, they moved to Connecticut in 1963 to work and raise their family. Following work in the local foundry, George drove truck for Stop N Shop for over 30 years. After retirement, he returned home to his family in New Brunswick in the late ‘90s.
George enjoyed camping, hunting in Coles Island, fishing, and drives along the cape and was always in for a good game of bingo. He looked forward to his trips to Fox Woods in Connecticut, spending time with his friends at Tim Horton's, and a good Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner at Patterson's on Tuesdays.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 53 years, Edith (Pugsley), Fort Folly; sons John (Mary), New Britain, Conn, Michael (Brenda), Fort Folly; daughters Theresa (Paul) Lowe, Springhill, NS and Rebecca Knockwood, Fort Folly; 16 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sister Bertha Francis, Rocky Points, PE, Anna Knockwood, Fort Folly; brother Joe (Wendy), Fort Folly, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers Bill and Henry and sisters Florence Knockwood, Mary Jane and Doris, and an infant Mary Louise.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, NB (506-364-1300) where visiting hours were held on Monday, September 3 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 11 a.m., Pastor Vernon Vickruck officiating. A reception will be held at the Fort Folly Band Office immediately following the funeral. Cremation will take place after the funeral and the ashes will be interred in the Beaumont Cemetery at a later date.
