Valerie O'Neil

Lieu de décès : SYDNEY, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 3 septembre 2012

On Monday, Sept. 3, 2012 Valerie Anne O’Neil, nee Magliaro, lost her 16 year battle with cancer.
‘Nunny’ was the youngest daughter of the late Luigi and Elfina (Ranni) Magliaro, Sydney, formerly Italy.
Valerie leaves behind her husband, best friend and business partner, Earl Joseph O’Neil. Val and Earl spent over 45 years together running their businesses and raising their family. They opened their first business, “Wapo’s Dairy” in Whitney Pier in 1973 and went on to the former Simon David’s Grocery store, The Meadows in Sydney Forks, Earl O’Neil Auto Sales and Real Estate and Property Rentals.
Valerie was known as ‘Mouse’ to her husband, Earl, ‘Ma’ to her sons, Glenn and Earl and ‘Nunny’ to her grandchildren and great-granddaughter, and ‘Sister Val’ to her brothers. She will be remembered for her Italian cooking, which was always offered to anyone who crossed her threshold. She loved going to her flea markets, yard sales, and thrift shops, doing her crossword puzzles and her morning games of cribbage with her husband, Earl. All those that knew her loved her kindness and generosity of spirit.
Valerie was predeceased by an infant son, Larry Joe; sisters, Frances Poirier and Caroline Greeno and brothers, Tony, Nick, Joe and Louie Magliaro.
Valerie is survived by her brothers, Rudy (Cecelia), Silvio (Marie), Reggie and Freddy Magliaro, all of Sydney. Also left behind are her sons, Glenn (Ronda) O’Neil, Brampton and Earl (Wendy) O’Neil, of Sydney. Valerie had three granddaughters, whom she loved dearly, Tayler, Chelsea and Tori O’Neil and a great-granddaughter, Charlie Ashtyne Carrigan-O’Neil. She had a special bond with her only and “favourite” grandson, Alex, who enjoyed spending his summer’s home with his Nunny.
Visitation for the late Valerie Anne O’Neil will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Friday, Sept. 7, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass to celebrate Valerie’s life will be held Saturday morning, Sept. 8, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home.
At the family’s request, donations in memory of Valerie may be made to the N.S. Chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society.
The family would like to thank Dr. Azer, and the staff of the second floor of the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital and the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the care they gave Valerie over the years. Your compassion was greatly appreciated.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
Online condolences may be forwarded to the family at www.pierfuneralhome.com.
