It is with deep regret that we the family announce the passing of Donnie Williams on Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at Taigh Na Mara, Veterans Wing, Glace Bay.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Sidney and Harriet (MacLean) Williams.
He was a veteran of the Second World War. He was employed for 40 years at the Sydney Steel Corporation, until his retirement. Donnie was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, dancing and reading.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marie (Thurgood) Williams; daughter, Donna Williams, Sydney; brother, James (Phyllis) Williams, Sydney; brother-in-law, Charles (Lois) Thurgood, Windsor, Ont.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Sidney and Harriet, Donnie was predeceased by his son, Sidney Williams, (2009) and a brother, John ‘Jack’ Williams.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19 at Bethel Presbyterian Church, George Street, with Rev. Bob Lyle officiating. Interment to take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Donations may be to a charity of one’s choice.
