McDONOUGH, LAURA - Laura May (Gilbert) McDonough passed away September 10, 2012 at the Stella Maris-de-Kent Hospital. Born in Hedley, BC on April 13, 1913 she was the daughter of the late George Miles Gilbert and Ethel May (Carter) Gilbert and wife of the late Patrick "Hilary" Logue McDonough. Laura was an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Church, a CWL member for 80 years. She worked in the kitchens at Base Gagetown for many years and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. In Burton, everyone knew her flower gardens and her farming abilities, especially her veggie garden and her chickens and eggs. Survived by sons, Thomas "Sonny" McDonough and Arthur McDonough (Laura); daughters, Patricia Buyting (John) and Lucy Holland (Gerry); 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granchild. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her son, Father Patrick George McDonough (SFM); her grandchildren, Colleen Elizabeth McDonough, Thomas Jeffrey McDonough and Patrick Hilary Holland; her brothers, Frank Gilbert, Charles Gilbert, Most Rev. Arthur J. Gilbert and Joe Gilbert and one sister, Ethel (Gilbert) Shea.
Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home on Thursday, September 13th and Friday, September 14th, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Saturday, September 15th, 2012 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Oromocto, NB with Fr. Ken Weir as celebrant. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Pallbearers will be her family, Robert and Michael Holland, Arthur B. McDonough, John Patrick and Hilary Buyting, Alan Hicks, Neil and Thomas Stoop. Honorary pallbearers will be Marty and Neil Hood and Gerard and Tim Gilbert.
