STELLARTON – Chief Robert G. White Retired, born September 16, 1949 in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Canada, succumbed to cancer on September 15, 2012.
He is survived by his wife Linda Jean (Works) of 41 years, son Jason and two grandchildren Jacob Alexander and Jayden Simone, brother Earle (Barbara) of Calabash, NC, nephew Eric Bruce (Stephanie), niece Erin Krystina (Chris), sisters-in-law Beverly Works, Stellarton; Laureen (Robert) Livingston; Marie (Dale) McLeod; many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Predeceased by parents Harry and Jessie White, step-father Thomas Finn, in-laws Howard and Dorothy Works and brother-in-law Howard Works.
Robert was raised in New York and returned to Nova Scotia in 1968. Member of the New Glasgow Police Services 1971-1974; Stellarton Police Services 1975 at which time he became a member of the Trenton Police Services January 1976-2011 Retirement. During this time he held the rank of Constable, Sergeant, having been appointed Chief of Police in March 1982 to which time he retired.
In 2005 he was chosen as 1 of 2 members to participate in the Torch Run Special Olympics in Japan.
Positions held in his 40 years of service: President of Nova Scotia Chiefs of Police; President, Atlantic Association of Chiefs of Police; Member of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police. Chief White was also a volunteer of the Stellarton Volunteer Fire Department for 26 years; Past Master of Keith #23 Stellarton Masonic Lodge; Past President of Canadian Air Force Association 110 Wing - member for 35 years, 30 year member Royal Canadian Legion Branch 28, Stellarton.
Robert enjoyed playing darts, bowling, curling, hunting, music and most important – GOLF…
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday from Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton, with Father Peter MacDonald presiding. Burial will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Chief White may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
