Jimmie Norman MacDonald
Lieu de naissance : Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Lieu de décès : Mira/Louisbourg, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
It is with saddened hearts that we, the family of Jimmie Norman MacDonald, announce his passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a brief illness with cancer.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alma (Beaudry); sons, Darryl and Allen; grandsons, Jake, Ben, Thomas and granddaughter, Mora; sisters, Jacqueline (Randall), Isabel (Majcher), Betty (Gallagher), Kathy (Antle); and brothers, John Samuel, Allister and Michael.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jake and Johanna MacDonald and sisters, Mora (MacIssac) and, in infancy, Charlotte Anne.
Jim started a sailing career aboard the hydrographic vessel “Arctic Sealer” and continued in that occupation for several years on the Great Lakes. But the draw to Cape Breton and the desire to raise a family resulted in a new career as a lineman with Nova Scotia Power; a career which was to last 27 years. Jimmie Norman was active in the annual Celtic Colours International Festival in the transport of musicians throughout the island and mainland Nova Scotia.
Well known throughout Cape Breton for his commitment to the music and culture of the island, Jimmie Norman is said to have possessed the words to hundreds of songs and was more than willing, at the drop of a hat, to sing a tune or two.
He was also deeply appreciated for his keen sense of humour and sociable nature. Those who knew him will never forget his iron grip and his ability to work a room or any large crowd.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 20 at Stella Maris Church, Louisbourg, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place Friday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m. also at Stella Maris Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stella Maris Building Fund.
Online condolences may be sent to our web page at www.chantfuneralhome.com.
