We, the family of Paul Louis LeForte, 94, are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved father who passed way peacefully at the Glace Bay General Hospital on Sept. 18, 2012. He resided at Seaview Manor since 2006.
Born in Donkin on Aug. 18, 1918, he was the son of the late John LeForte (Lafargue) and Louise ( Detcheverry) LeForte
Paul was a member of St. Anthony’s parish, Glace Bay. In his younger years he was avid hunter and ran beagles in major competition at the Airway Beagle Club where he won countless awards for his ability to train and guide tracking dogs in the pursuit of rabbits. He loved the sport of boxing, which he was involved in during his younger years. Paul took up coal mining in 1934 and obtained his first class papers and began working in 1B for the Dominion Coal Co. While visiting in Dominion he met his wife to be, Mary Janet Sloan and they were married on Nov. 4, 1941, at St. Anthony Church. Paul went on to work in several other mines No. 20 and 26 retiring in 1971. Paul filled his retirement days with running beagles, playing crib and gardening.
He is survived by his sons, Paul (Pauline), Bernie (Donna) of Cambridge, Ont., Greg (Julie), Glace Bay, John (Eileen), Halifax; and daughter, Francine (Kenneth) MacKinnon of Glace Bay. He is also survived by his brother, Charles LeForte; sisters, Alice MacLaughlin, Theresa MacKinnon, both of Glace Bay, and Margarite Bond of New Brunswick; plus 14 grandchildren and countless great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary in 1996, daughter, Claudia 2005 and brothers, John Sr., Angie, Eddie, George, Ronald, Frank, Joe and sister, Louise.
Visitation will take place Friday, Sept. 21 from 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
