Hilchie, Sarah Elizabeth “Betty”, age 89, of Scotch Village, Hants County passed away and went to be with the love of her life, Justin Hilchie on Wednesday, September 20, 2012 in the Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth. Born on May 5, 1923 in Windsor Junction, she was a daughter of the late Fredrick and Etta (Fitzpatrick) Meagher she spent many years living in the community of Scotch Village, before moving to the Windsor Elms Village in Falmouth. She was an active member of the Newport Jolly Seniors who many times would transport others to the meetings. Betty loved to garden, travel, dance and attended parties. For many years you would see her travelling door to door selling Avon and through this was able to meet everyone in the community. She enjoyed life and telling you what a good ball player she was in her younger days in Windsor Jct. Betty is survived by her daughters; Dianne (Roy) Lane, Harvey Station, New Brunswick; Joyce (Ted) McDonald, Truro N.S; foster children, Joyce Lyons, Windsor; James Adema, Scotch Village, N.S.; Rita Allard, Ontario; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four foster grandchildren; one great foster great-grandchild; sister, Kathleen Young, Halifax; Betty was predeceased by her husband, William Justin Hilchie; brothers Leo, Harold, George, and Joseph Meagher; and sisters Marie Edgar, Eileen Wolfe, and Anne Murphy. A special thanks goes to the staff of the Windsor Elms Village for their great care they gave to Betty. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday September 27th, 2012 at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Windsor with the Rev. Michael Walsh presiding. Donations can be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association, Colchester East Hants Branch, Truro, Nova Scotia, and the Terry Fox Foundation. Arrangements are under the care of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor.
