Mary Louise MacKinnon (Mrs. Peter S. MacKinnon) (Granny May), age 80, of Bay St. Lawrence, Victoria Co., died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at the Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil’s Harbour surrounded by family.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of late Fredrick Bonnar and Flora MacKinnon. She was a member of the Bay St. Lawrence United Church and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and aunt. She enjoyed her Gaelic roots through celtic fiddle music and was an amazing gardener.
She is survived by her children, Clara (Hughie), Neldia (Joseph), Betty (Fred), Kenneth (Della), Diane (Peter), Connie (Robert), Patsy (Stanley), Lucy, Francis (Catherine), Kevin (Amy), Rose (James), Colleen, Sheldon (Delilah); daughter-in-law, Crystal. Also surviving her best friend, Elizabeth Bonnar; 34 grandchildren, Georgina, Tommy, Hughina, Don, Isabelle, Chris, Corrine, Willie Jean, Martin, Shane, Laura Lee, Juanita, Michael, Abbigail, Norman, Ida, Edward, Clifton, Styles, Courtney, Erica, Bianca, Cassie, Ali, Danielle, Karl, Waylon, Danni, Peter, Donna May, Tiffany, Jersey, Marcus, Jillian; 34 great-grandchildren, Blake, Desiria, Richard, Cody, Faith, Alanna, Donica, Francisca, Douglas, Dayna, Danielle, Ambrose, Lilly, Cameron, Carter, Chase, Braxton, Sabrina, Amber, Molly, Emma, Chloe, Jacob, Peyton, James, Ashley, Nicolas, Sara, Charles, Myles, Rowan, Cheyenne, Ben, Nate; two great-great-grandchildren, Declan, Leighton; sister, Mary (Allan Joseph) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Peter Simon ‘Pea’ MacKinnon, daughter, Lillian; sons, Tommy & Danny; brothers, William & Simon; sisters, Margaret & Christie and a sibling in infancy.
There will be no wake, but visitation with the family will be held Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012 from 1 p.m.-10 p.m. at Patsy’s home, 21 McBuck Rd., Bay St. Lawrence. A graveyard service will be held Monday, Sept. 24, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrews United Church Cemetery, Bay St. Lawrence with Rev. Margie Wood officiating. Burial will be followed at the McIntosh Pioneer Cemetery, Money Point Road, Bay St. Lawrence.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home Limited.
As memorials, donations may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Center.
