Dzintra Balodis

In acknowledgment of a wonderful, full life, the family of Dzintra "Nina" Balodis, 91 , announces her passing on September 22, 2012. Born November 16, 1920 in Riga, Latvia, she immigrated to Canada in 1949. She and her late husband Hugo Balodis made their home in Marshdale.

Nina was an avid gardener and enjoyed growing flowers and vegetables alike. Her African violets were sold in the Aberdeen gift shop and brought happiness to many. She loved bird and weather watching. Family was a central part of her life and she quickly learned to use Facebook, Skype, and email to keep in touch with everyone, both near and far. Nina was famous for making sure everyone was well fed with her delicious home cooking and garden produce!

She will be greatly missed by sons Marcis Balodis (Mara), Valdis Balodis (Debbie), daughters Ilze Firminger (Mark), Anita Davidson ( John), Rita Troelstra (Alex), her nineteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

As per Dzintra's wishes, her remains have been donated to Dalhousie University and there will be no visitation or funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
