Francis, Douglas Allan - It is with a great deal of sadness that we announce Doug’s passing in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro on September 22, 2012 at the age of 86. Born in Calgary, Alberta on March 25, 1926, he was the son of Percy and Della Francis. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters Rose Rodriguez, Monya Davidson; brothers James Francis, Gordon Francis; second wife Barbara Douglas and stepson Graham Douglas. Dad was a well respected Life Insurance Broker in the Maritimes and continued to service his clients right up until his passing. He was an avid sportsman who excelled at hockey in his early years playing for the Rockingham Eagles in the Halifax and District Suburban Hockey League. He was also a talented golfer and a longtime member of Ashburn Golf Club and having competed in many Provincial Championships and ultimately winning the Maritime Amateur. Dad was a past Director of the Truro Golf Club and was instrumental in the positive changes to the course that still exist today. Dad was a true outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He has fished the many waters of Atlantic Canada having landed numerous trout and salmon and his prized Atlantic Bluefin Tuna which topped the scales at 864lbs. His favorite fishing trips were to the Miramichi River where he spent many weeks there with friends. Dad had a great sense of adventure and a fantastic sense of humor, his greatest attribute was his love of people and their stories, others would be so lucky to have someone like Dad as a friend. Special thanks to Dr. Locke, Dr. Henderson and all the nurses and caregivers of the Palliative Care Unit of the Colchester Regional Hospital. As per Dad’s wishes he did not want his passing to be a sad affair but rather a celebration with family and friends. In accordance with his wishes we would like to celebrate his life in the two communities he called home, Petite Riviere and Truro. Celebrations will be held in Petite Riviere on Thursday September 27 between 4pm and 6pm at the Petite Riviere Firehall and in Truro on Friday September 28 between 2pm and 4pm at Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro.
