It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Josephine ‘Josie’ (Jerrett) MacInnis, age 95, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, on Monday Sept. 24, 2012, at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Born in Sydney Mines on Jan. 17, 1917, Josie was the daughter of the late Harry and Delphine (Rateau) Jerrett.
A well-known business woman in Cape Breton, Josie was co-owner of Josie’s Restaurant in Balls Creek and her reputation was known both locally and nationally for the excellent food served there. She was a longtime member of the Leitches Creek Ladies Aid and a member of St. Joseph Church in North Sydney.
She is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Clarence) Logan, Fall River, Ella Lee MacInnis, Sydney; and special son, Larry MacNeil (Lana), Edmonton, whom she raised; her grandchildren, Ryan, Deanna and Brittany Logan, Megan Roed and Michelle MacNeil. Also surviving are her brothers, Ernest Jerrett, Ottawa, and Stanley Jerrett, B.C.; and her sisters, Eleanor Taylor and Ruth Anne (Charles) Williams, both of Sydney Mines, Dora (Bill) Murphy, Millville; and special niece, Cathy Gray (Rob), Dartmouth, also by nephew, Robert MacInnis (Beryle), Balls Creek, and nieces, Sharon Riley (Greg), Sydney and Carol Parks (Reg), N.L., and by many other nieces and nephews and their families.
Josie was predeceased by her husband, Willard MacInnis, Balls Creek, and two children in infancy, also by her brothers, Clarence, Willie and Eddie Jerrett and sisters, Millie Vickers and Excelia MacNeil, her brother-in-law, James MacInnis and sisters-in-law, Mildred and Mary MacInnis and Grace Gurney.
Visitation for Josie will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass to be held at 2 p.m., Friday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Family flowers only, memorial donations may be made to the Northside Community Guest Home or a charity of choice.
