Date de décès : 25 septembre 2012

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Evelyn, on Sept. 25, 2012, at Halifax, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Alder Point, Cape Breton, she attended the Interprovincial School for the Deaf, in Amherst, and Amherst Vocational School in her youth. She was employed by Symcor Halifax for many years.
A member of Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic parish, Evelyn, with her husband, Tom, treasured their church community, where, among other activities, Evelyn participated in Bible class and Bible class for the deaf. She enjoyed her membership in the Halifax Association for the Deaf, and the many social events and gatherings that were special to her. With the help of a hearing aid, she adored the beautiful fiddles of Cape Breton, and was delighted by a tribute to her at the Red Shoe, in Mabou, last summer. She was fully engaged in life, and always laughing, whether she was collecting shells on the beach in Cape Breton, enjoying her computer, or visiting friends and family. We will most remember Evelyn for her strength, her tremendous love for all, and her wonderful sense of humour. People always said: “It is impossible to be sad when Tom and Ev are in the room!” She cherished her family, her many friends and loved ones, and had a special place in her heart for her sons and treasured little grandson, Jack.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Tom Nickerson; sons, Irving Flemming (Kelly Connolly), Dennis Flemming (Jody Hutt); grandson, Jack Flemming, all of PEI; father, Earl O'Neil (Jean Bawdick), Halifax; mother, Ann O'Neil (Earl), Alder Point, Cape Breton; brothers, Joey, Fort McMurray, Alta., Johnny (Carolyn), Sydney, Jimmy, Fort McMurray, Billy (Holli), Fort McMurray, Daniel (Stacey), Alder Point, Ryan (Sef), Fort McMurray and sisters, Diane, Toronto, Ont.; Marie, Fort McMurray, Theresa (Steven), Toronto, Helen, Fort McMurray, Julie (Jackie), Fort McMurray; brother-in-law, David Nickerson; sisters-in-law, Shirley Burris (Phil Wallace), Bridgewater, N.S., Virginia Jonassen, Dryden, Ont.; many nieces and nephews and friends.
Services will be held at Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Parish on 26 Purcell's Cove Road, Halifax NS B3N 1R4, on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 1:30 p.m.

Gratitude is especially owed to her interpreter, Sandra Spear, who gave many hours of her personal time to Evelyn and her family. Evelyn asked that we pass along her blessings to you all.
