John Verner
VERNER, JOHN MICHAEL - It is with great sadness that the family of John M. Verner announces his passing on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Born in Saint John, NB, he was the son of the late Ernest and Mertiece (Hamilton) Verner and loving husband of 61 years to Margaret (Swain) Verner. John was a kind husband and father and a wonderful grandfather and great grandfather. He loved to garden, travel and play cards with friends and family. John also especially enjoyed his grandchildren and his sweet dog Daisy. He was employed as a welder for nearly 50 years at the Saint John Drydock and belonged to the Loyalist City Cloggers. In addition to his wife Margaret, John is survived by his sons John (Bev) Verner, and Bill (Bonnie) Verner; daughter Theresa Squires (Lew); brothers Joseph and David Verner; sisters Mertiece (John) Daley, Regina Porter, Edna (Fred) Sharkey, and brother in law Dave Hamilton; grandchildren Reg (Nicole) Verner, Rodney (Debbie) Squires, Tammy French, Shelly (Shawn) Baxter, Laura (Malcolm) Drew, Neill Verner; great grandchildren Tyler, Hayley, James, Kyle, Cody, Cameron, Curtis, Dylan and Owen, as well as, several nieces, nephews and cousins. John was predeceased by brothers Frederick, Herman, Thomas, Benjamin, Harry, George, Francis “Mickey” and infant Richard; sisters Ann Brown, Nene Settle, Audrey Hamilton and infant Jenny.
Arrangements entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB, (646-2424) with visitation Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, September 29th, 2012 from Stella Maris Catholic Church at 10 am with interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. A reception will follow the burial at the Fundy Funeral Home. Donations in John's memory to the charity of the Donor’s choice would be appreciated.
