Lieu de décès : Mira Gut/Sydney, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 28 septembre 2012

It is with broken hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Allister ‘Al’ MacKenzie our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Charles and Miriam (Pippy) MacKenzie.
Allister worked in mining for over 30 years, most of that time devoted to the coal mining industry in Cape Breton. The Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy recognized his contribution to the mining industry with two medals and a fellowship. Allister retired from Labour Canada as principal adviser to the Coal Mining Safety Commission, but had worked for many years prior to this in his own company providing engineering services, both in Canada and Internationally. He worked 12 years for the Cape Breton Development Corporation, where he held successive management positions. Early in his career he helped to establish and instructed in the Electrical Engineering Technology program, which was offered at the time by the Nova Scotia Eastern Institute of Technology. Allister served as a board member of the Cape Breton Development Corporation, the Community Economic Development Institute and the Alexander Graham Bell Institute at Cape Breton University.
Allister will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family, his fondness for dogs and horses and his enjoyment of boating on the Mira River and the Mira Bay. He loved music and was always singing or whistling. Serving as caddy, his kids have gained great woods orienteering skills as a result of his enjoyment of golf.
Allister is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Clara (MacKenzie) MacKenzie; his children, Robert (Carrie), Sydney River, Wayne (Kellie), Calgary, Ken (Nancy), Fort McMurray, Kevin, Mira Gut, Allison (Ernie) Hoban, Mira; his wonderful grandchildren, Brett, Jordan, Abigail, Allister, Keira, Erin, Jeffrey, Brooke, Brandon, Taylor. He is also survived by his sisters, Miriam (Doug) Ross, Ottawa, Evelyn (Fred) Christian, Texas; his cousins, Bev, Jim, and Harold; and his many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. A visitation/reception will follow from 7-8 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment to take place at a later date.
