MARSHALL, Dr Colin Melvin Marshall, devoted father and husband, and respected veterinarian for 36 years, passed away September 19, 2012 at the age of 66, after a ten month fight with cancer. The Memorial Service was held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 29, 2012 at First United Church with Reverend Sharon Ferguson-Hood officiating. The organist was Arlie Neufeld. The ushers were Dennis Heins, Vic Klassen, Barry Bucsis and John Gaudet. The life tribute was presented by Robin Marshall. The interment service took place at Mount Pleasant Burial Park. Colin was born in Creston, B.C. He always loved animals, and decided at an early age to become a veterinarian. He attended the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, where he met Lynda. After graduating in 1970, he moved to Swift Current to commence employment for Dr. Robert Hope at a small and large animal clinic. In 1971, he bought into Dr. Hope's practice, and married Lynda that same year in Creston. Colin started his own small animal practice in 1982, and retired in 2006. His passions over the years included his practice, his acreage with Lynda, his horses, curling, and RVing. Colin and Lynda began their passion for golf in the late 80s, and played at Chinook Golf Course since it first opened in 1989. They both fell in love with Texas by 2006; they enjoyed five winters there, and had planned on many more. When time allowed, Colin and family made quick weekend trips to Creston to visit family and friends. He cherished hunting trips with his brother Bob. Colin was well respected in the community as a dedicated caregiver of animals, devoted to his practice and his clients. He was a self-made man; forever ambitious and forward thinking in all endeavours. He was private and discreet, but giving and fair to others. If you were deserving of his respect, he would befriend you for life. Colin and Lynda were blessed with many friends over the years, both in Canada and the U.S.. His meticulous, unsurpassed vision, and extraordinary wit and inventiveness complemented his dedication to family and friends. Colin is survived by his loving wife Lynda, and sons Kim and Robin, and his brother and sisters Robert (Ella) Marshall, Doreen (Walter) Eastman and Elevera (Victor) Hedlund; grandchildren Tyler (Kelsi) Marshall, Justin Marshall, Brock Marshall and Latessa Tootoosis, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His time came too soon, and his absence will be deeply felt by his family. He will be dearly missed by many. With broken hearts, we must go on, because that is what Colin would want. To quote a family friend: "Don't cry for me; but laugh as though I was standing beside you." In his memory, memorial donation may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
