It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. Daniel ‘Duper’ Carl McIntyre, 83, of Gardiner Mines and a resident of Victoria Haven Nursing Home, Glace Bay, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Dominion, Daniel was the son of the late John and Isabell (Campbell) McIntyre.
Daniel was a member of St. James Church, Gardiner Mines. He was employed with Devco working in #26 Colliery and retiring from Lingan Colliery after many years of service. He was both an avid boxer and boxing fan. He enjoyed roller skating, ice skating and loved walking along the Dominion Beach.
Daniel will be sadly missed by his loving daughter, Carol (Graham) Gordon, Montreal; stepson, Butch (Mickie) Buchanan, Tanglewood. Also surviving are cherished grandchildren, Jeffrey Buchanan, Tanglewood, Leanne (Terrence) Butler, Lingan Highway and great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Butler; brother, Bernie (Carol) McIntyre, Dominion; sisters, Annie Roper, Bridgeport, Mary Kelly, Glace Bay, Colista Poirier, Dominion, Lena Sweeney, Gardiner Mines; sister-in-law, Edna McIntyre, Dominion.
Besides his parents, Daniel was predeceased by his wife, Anna (Buchanan), sisters, Vangie Spencer, Margaret MacMullin, brothers, John W. ‘Son’, Cecil, Harvey, brothers-in-law, Lawrence Spencer, Joseph MacMullin, Martin Sweeney, Donald Roper, Art Kelly and Tom Poirier.
Visitation for Daniel McIntyre will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Cremation will follow. A funeral mass will be celebrated 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at St. Eugene’s Church, Dominion, with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Gardiner Mines. A luncheon will be held in St. Eugene’s Church hall.
