GUNTER, BERTHA E. - The death of Bertha Engelmann (Kircher) Gunter occurred on October 14th, 2012 at Pine Grove Nursing Home at the age of 103. Born July 31st, 1909 in Belleville, IL. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Alice (Ayre) Kircher and wife of the late Herbert H. "Pat" Gunter. She attended Acadia University in Nova Scotia where she met her future husband Pat; and graduated with a degree in Home Economics. After the marriage, she lived in Truro and Parrsboro, before moving to Fredericton to eventually reside in the family home located on Brunswick Street opposite Christ Church Cathedral where her two sons were raised. Bertha is survived by her sons, Michael of Quispamsis, NB and William (Catherine) of Edmonton, AB; her grandchildren, Andrew of Edmonton, AB and Dr. Heather Moss (Dr. Joshua Moss and their children - Jonah and Clara) of Chicago, IL; and her nieces and nephews, Marjorie, Nancy, Tom and Susan residing in the United States. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; two brothers and one sister.
A memorial service for Bertha will be held at Pine Grove Nursing Home's Chapel, (521 Woodstock Road, Fredericton, NB) on Thursday, October 25th, 2012 at 2 pm with The Very Rev. Keith Joyce officiating. Interment will be in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery. Bertha's family would like to thank the staff at Pine Grove Nursing Home for all the care and support they have shown to Bertha and their family over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bertha, made to the Christ Church Cathedral Restoration Fund, (168 Church Street, Fredericton, NB, E3B 4C9; 450-8500) would be appreciated by the family.
