Gilford Moore
MOORE, GILFORD H. – 66, of Lower Sackville and Parrsboro passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at the Infirmary Site, QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax surrounded by loved ones. Born in Springhill, he was a son of Lois (Gilbert) Moore, Parrsboro and the late Hilton Moore. Gil grew up in Parrsboro and it was there where he most loved to be - working on his woodlot and blueberry fields, driving his tractor and surrounded by nature. The cottage which he built at nearby Gilbert Lake is filled with memories of happy gatherings with family and friends, card games played and laughter shared. He was strong physically but gentle at heart and had a keen sense of humour, teasing family and friends, and even the ER staff at the Cobequid Centre and the Halifax Infirmary who offered him such great care. Gil worked in the elevator business for 37 years, retiring 9 years ago. In 1967, he went to work in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and it was there where he met his lovely, fun loving bride-to-be, Josephine. He loved playing 45’s and cribbage with Josie and their friends, taking part in friendly competitions in the Sackville area. He will be dearly missed by Josie, his wife of 45 years; daughters, Kathleen Moore, Lisa Moore; grandchildren, Tanisha, Damian, Dawson, Cody, Tyler, Steven, all of Lower Sackville; mother, Lois Moore, Parrsboro; his sister, Linda Keirstead (Andrew), Caribou Island; various nieces and nephews, loyal and caring friends. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday [October 26, 2012] at Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro, where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday [October 27, 2012], Rev. Greg Doyle officiating. Burial in the Parrsboro Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences at www.smithsfuneralhome.com
