It is with great sadness that we, the family of Ann Lorraine Gallant, announce her passing on Oct. 23, 2012 following a brief, yet courageous, battle with cancer. Ann passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her cherished family and friends.
Ann Grew up in Dominion, the daughter of the late Joe ‘the Mayor’ and Sadie (Black) MacDonald.
Her true passion was being in the presence of family and friends.
This kind, loving, and compassionate woman is mourned by her six children, Eugene,Calgary, Alberta, Lorraine (John Westwood), New Victoria, Joseph , Gardiner Mines, Michael (Phyllis Jewels), Westmount, Delores (Dave MacDonald), Dartmouth and Robert (Diane Holloway), Glace Bay; grandchildren, Eugene, Maggie, Luke, Steven, Tiffany, Robbie, Nicole and Johnna; three great-grandchildren, Hayley, Jordyn and Quinn. Ann will also be deeply missed by her siblings, Charles (Sharon), Point Edward, Dan V., Glace Bay, Greg (Jeannette), Truro, Joyce MacLean and Mary Gillis, both of Sydney; several nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law; her special pet, Baby.
Besides her parents, Ann was predeceased by her beloved husband, Luke, daughter Lisa, brother John F. MacDonald, son-in-law Robbie May, granddaughter Sarah Westwood, brothers and sister-in-law.
Visitation will be held in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass of celebration will be held Saturday, Oct. 27 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Ave., with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Gardiner Mines, with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard’s Parish Hall on Convent Street, New Waterford.
Donations in Ann’s memory may be made to the Canadian Red Cross or the Hospice/Palliative Care, An Cala Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, N.S.
