
Lorraine Muirhead
WESTVILLE – Lorraine Shirley (MacNeil) Muirhead, 84, Cowan Street, Westville, passed away on October 25, 2012 at Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow.
Born in Westville, on April 20, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Robert Henry and Gertrude (Wright) MacNeil.
Lorraine trained as a hairdresser as a young woman and went on to operate her own hairdressing shop (Lorraine’s Beauty Shop) for over 40 years in Westville. She was a member of St. Bees’ Anglican Church. She was a former member of the Westville Curling Club. Lorraine will always be remembered for her kindness in delivering her home cooked meals to others and offering assistance when she could. She enjoyed her regular visits to nursing homes over the years, bringing treats and smiles to the residents.
Lorraine is survived by sister Edith Schenk, Torrington, Ct. and Doreen “Dolly” Briggs (Larry), Montreal. She was a caring aunt to her many nieces and nephews, including local nieces Marilyn Stephenson, Lee Cleveland, and Doreen MacNeil and nephew John MacNeil.
She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Lawrence Muirhead in 1999, and two infant daughters; also by sister Elsie Stewart; brothers, Edison “Bud”, John Henry, Willard “Butch” and Joseph MacNeil.
Lorraine is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville where her family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday. Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday from St. Bees’ Anglican Church with the Rev. Aidan Kingsbury officiating. Burial will be in St. Bees’ Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Lorraine may be made to St. Bees’ Church, Glen Haven Manor, or a charity of choice.
Sincere appreciation is expressed to all staff members of Glen Haven Manor for the care and love given to Lorraine, with a special thank you to the “Unit” on the 2nd floor where she made her home for the past three years.
