Blakeney: Dorothy Evelyn (Dot), passed away peacefully Sunday November 4, 2012 with family by her side. Born in Truro, she was the daughter of the late James and Maggie (O’Brien) Bilby. Dot was one who took pride in her needle work, having generated many needlepoint pieces, not to mention the many pairs of mittens that her grandchildren looked forward to receiving each winter. Dot was an avid bowler and enjoyed the occasional round of golf as well. Dot frequently attended Blakeney family reunions in the Maritimes and the US. She was a hair dresser having worked for Kay Blakeney Beauty Salon and later in her own home. Dot is survived by son Gary Blakeney (Sandra McCully) of Valley, Colchester County, daughter Donna McNutt (Larry) of North River; grandchildren, Heather Blakeney of Edmonton Alberta and Michael Blakeney of Truro, Jamie (Alyssa) McNutt of Bible Hill and Scott McNutt (Hayley Chiasson) of Salmon River. Dot was very proud to have her great grandchildren in her life, Taylor and Emily McNutt and Madeline Chiasson. Dot is also survived by her brother, Ronald (Hib) Bilby of Toronto, former daughter-in-law, Anne Blakeney as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Dot was predeceased by her husband, George Blakeney (in 1986), sisters Marjorie Dillman, Kay Currie and Gladys Seaman; brothers Gordon and Harold (Bus) Bilby. Donna would like to extend a most sincere and heartfelt thank you to Ruth Barnhill and the entire staff at Karlaine Place for the exceptional care, kindness, and compassion they’ve shown to Mom over the past three years and to the VON whose recent visits were invaluable. Also a special thank you to Dr. David Blair for his caring nature and endless support. Family flowers only. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, from where visitation will be held Wednesday November 7, from 7-9 pm and a celebration of Dot’s life to be held Thursday November 8 at 2 pm, Rev. Donna Lawrence officiating with a reception to follow. Interment at Terrace Hill Cemetery Truro.
