It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving wife, mother and grandmother on Nov. 12, 2012.
Born Oct. 6, 1937, Chris was raised in Whitney Pier and was the daughter of the late Edna and John Bernasky.
Chris married the love of her life, John in 1963 and moved to Dominion where they raised their children. In her younger years Chris and John spent many fun times at their bungalow in Gabarus. Chris spent a life time of caring for others. She cherished her family and grandchildren more than anything. A kind, patient, exceptional and caring wife and mother, she was always there to listen and help. Nanny spent many hours playing with her grandchildren. She truly had a heart of gold. She made every holiday special, especially Christmas. She loved flowers, gardening and watching TV. She was great cook and loved going to bingo with her son, Billy.
Chris is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Joanne (Gerard) Gouthro, Dartmouth; sons, Gary (Mildred) Bernasky, Sydney, Bill (Roseanna) Melnick, Glace Bay, and Steve Melnick, New Brunswick; grandchildren, Cheryle, Tammy, Amber, Marea, Michael, Catherine and Amy; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters, June (Richie) Dassonville, Shirley Humby; stepsister, Mary Richardson; brother, Ernie (Karen) Bernosky.
Besides her parents, Chris was predeceased by several sisters and brothers.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Eugene's Parish, Dominion, with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Reception will follow in the parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Chris's name to a charity of choice.
