COLLIER: It is with deep sadness that the Collier family must announce the passing of Mark Steven Collier who suffered a heart attack o October 30, 2012. Mark was born in Swift Current, SK to Gordon and Eileen Collier (nee Ashton) on September 19, 1960. He moved to Norman Wells, Northwest Territories in 1979, where he met his wife and raised two children. Although he would always feel a need to reconnect with his family roots, he ultimately considered the north his home. During his early years in Norman Wells, he worked for various trucking and heavy equipment construction companies. While he was employed by the Town of Norman Wells as a recreation facility maintainer, he went to school and was awarded his Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman Certificate in Carpentry. He then went on to become a Building Inspector for the NWT Housing Corporation and finally as a Benefits Officer for the GNWT Department of Human Resources. His volunteer contributions to the community of Norman Wells included coaching Minor Hockey, Learn-to-Skate, Speed Skating, and Wado Kai Karate where he earned his own 1st Degree Black Belt. Over the years his musical interest and knowledge was instrumental in bringing various concerts and world renowned artists to our small isolated community. Although his professional talent was appreciated, we were all most fortunate when he would share with us his own incredible talent with a guitar. It is hard to imagine a future without a man who was so endeared by so many. He spent every day striving to improve life for himself, his family, his friends and his community. For now, during our days of grief, we find ourselves focusing on his absence. But time is the ultimate healer and given enough time, we will turn our thoughts to his life. It is then that Mark will once again give us moments of peace, pure joy and a thankful heart. He is survived by his wife Cindy, his children Zachary and Emily, his mother Eileen, his brothers Dwayne (Sa) and Tim, numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, a mother-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends and community members. We would like to express our deep appreciation to all those who, by sharing in our sadness, have made things a little easier. For Steve, Randy, Jim and Diana we are forever grateful.
