IRENE DICKIN

Date de décès : 24 novembre 2012

Beloved by family and friends, Irene passed away peacefully at Lakeview Pioneer Lodge in Wakaw, SK on Friday, November 24th, 2012, with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her husband Herb Dickin, her parents, Milton and Myrtle Palmer, and her sister Doris Llewellyn. Irene is survived by her son Stephen(Carol) of Denver, Colorado, and their children Jeff and Heather, and her daughter Anne(Cliff Schmidt) of Wakaw, and their children Katherine, Patrick and Robert, five great-grandchildren Moriah, Cassidy, Tatum, Isaac, and Brett, brother-in-law Ronald Dickin, and sister-in-law Jean Dickin. Irene was born on December 28th, 1915 in Regina, SK, where she grew up, went to school, then worked as a secretary with various businesses. She made many lasting friendships there, and involved herself with music, the Eastern Star and many church activities. She and Herb were married on December 28th, 1947. They lived in Ceylon and Yellow Grass, before settling in Assiniboia for over fifty years. Again, Irene was very active in that community, especially at St. Paul’s United Church, the Eastern Star, and the Royal Canadian Legion. Her love of music made a great impact on her life. Irene taught piano lessons in her home to many children. She and Herb square danced for all of their married life, in Assiniboia and in Mesa, Arizona. They loved the winters spent in Mesa, at the “Good Life” resort where several of their friends from the Assiniboia area also wintered. In 2005, Irene and Herb moved to Mulberry Estates in Moose Jaw, where Irene spent six happy years. She and Herb enjoyed almost sixty years of marriage, before Herb’s passing in 2007. A year ago, Irene moved to the Lakeview Pioneer Lodge, in Wakaw where her daughter Anne lives. Anne was able to visit “Mum” almost every day. Irene was an inspiration to all who know her, for her positive attitude and strength of faith. She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, other family and friends. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Assiniboia. Donations in memory of Irene can be made to St. Paul’s United Church, P.O. Box 567, Assiniboia, Sk, S0K 0B0.
