Verna Ruth Field

At the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, of Mrs. Verna Ruth Field (nee Saunders) of Charlottetown, aged 85 years.
Beloved wife of the late Earl Joseph “Joe” Field and dear mother of Nancy Field (Eric Cook) and ‘grand dog’ Zeus, all of Fredericton, N.B. She is also survived by her sister “Fredda” Levina Gerard (Lebaron MacMillan) of Burlington, Ontario; brothers-in-law Eugene “Dookie” Field (Phyllis), Claude Field (Beryl) of Charlottetown; sister-in-law Loma Stone of Toronto; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother, Helen Christine Saunders (nee Gamester) and her father Elmer Saunders; brothers, Sterling Edgar Saunders (in infancy), Nelson Elmer “Buddy” Saunders; sister Helen “Elayne” Flynn; brothers and sisters-in-law Kenneth Gerard, Maurice Flynn, Wallace “Bud” Field (Doris), Ora Lampkin (Jim) and Justin Stone.
Ruth was born on September 8, 1927, in Charlottetown at the Prince Edward Island Hospital/Infirmary on Kensington Road. After growing up in Charlottetown, she relocated to Toronto where she worked for Loblaws and married her husband who became the Globe and Mail circulation manager. Later in life they returned to Prince Edward Island where she and her husband established, then operated the Globe and Mail distribution for many years before retiring. Ruth had a spirited personality and developed many long-lasting friendships with people far and near. Ruth will be missed by her family and many friends. She will be remembered as a giving person, always putting others ahead of herself.
A loving mother and wife, Ruth was devoted to family. She was also a loving ‘grandmother’ to two golden retrievers, Callaghan and Sabastian.
Resting at the Hennessey Cutcliffe Charlottetown Funeral Home where a celebration of Ruth’s life will be held on Saturday morning in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Interment later in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the P.E.I. Cancer Treatment Center (QEH), the Palliative Care Unit of the Prince Edward Home or the Companion Animal Fund at the UPEI Atlantic Veterinary College.
No visitation by personal request.
