Erland Edgar “Hank” Henderson MDCM FRCP, 82, of New Glasgow passed away December 8, 2012 at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, NS.
He was born July 11, 1930 in Freeland, PEI, a son of the late Robert Edgar and Hazel (Hardy) Henderson.
He received his early education in Freeland and Murray Road schools to grade 10 and then went to Prince of Wales, Charlottetown for grades eleven and twelve, as well as his first two years of college. Following graduation from Prince of Wales he was admitted to Dalhousie Medical School graduating in 1955. Following a general practice in Inverness, NS for 5 years he returned to do post-graduate work in Diagnostic Radiology at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax. In 1964 he began work at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, NS retiring in 1997.
He was active in many medical staff committees, including two terms as president. He was also president of the Pictou County Medical Society and was a representative of the society on the Medical Society of Nova Scotia.
He was a long-time member of the New Glasgow Gyro Club and was actively involved in its many activities. He was a member of Trinity United Church.
Surviving are his wife, Gloria; and children Nancy (Bob), Gary (Linda) and Kathy (Terry), grandchildren Jared (Brenda), Jenna, Emily, Jeff and Collin a brother George(Brenda), sister-in-law Isabell, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Harold.
Cremation to take place.
There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held 3pm Sunday December 16, 2012 at Trinity United Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Norman Marple presiding. A reception to follow in the church hall.
Burial will take place in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens in the Summer of 2013.
No flowers by request. Donations may be made to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Society or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
