
Romeo "Mel" Melanson
MELANSON, ROMEO J. “MEL” - Romeo J. “Mel” Melanson, 77, of Moncton, passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital after a lengthy illness on Sunday, December 9, 2012. Mel was in sales for most of his life, most notably at Mack Trucks. As an avid sports fan, he enjoyed golf, hockey and baseball (especially his beloved Blue Jays). In addition, he was the Manager of the Moncton Hawks during the late 1960’s. He also enjoyed his volunteer work at The Moncton Hospital. Mel will be lovingly remembered by his wife of over 59 years, Betty (Proude) Melanson; his two sons, Rick Melanson (Gisele) and Darren Melanson (Kelly); three daughters, Joanne Sadler (Jim), Lori Shea (Jeff) and Patti Graham (Alan); eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brother, Gerald “Gerry”; sister, Mabel. He was predeceased by his sister, Florence “Flo”. The family would like to thank the Nursing Staff of 4600 at The Moncton Hospital, Dr. Peter Docherty, Dr. Ron Bourgeois and especially Dr. Kim Deware for his years of wonderful care and Dr. Suzanne Hall-Losier for her care and compassion during Mel’s last few days.
Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm. In keeping with Mel’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Interment will be held in Princetown United Church Cemetery, PEI at a later date.
