Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Health Centre, Gander on Friday, December 14, 2012, Lionel Wicks, age 91. Predeceased by his parents Agnes and Jacob and brother’s Maxwell and Leonard. Left to mourn with loving memories are his wife Emily (nee Lush) Sons; Larry (Joan) Gander, Gerald (Winnie) Gambo and Dennis (Linda) Appleton, daughters; Patsy (Joe Purcell) Labrador City, Marilyn (Keith Seaward) Gander and Sharon (Barry Hammond) Ottawa. Brother, Cator (Jean) Best,Kippens. Sisters; Annie Penny, Campbellton, Aggie (Wilmore Hounsell) Nova scotia and Beryl (Calvin Howell) Wesleyville. Grandchildren; Larry, Jacob, Thomas, Dennis, Jo-Anne, Emily, Gregory, Joey, Dana, Terri-Lee, Lionel, Richard, Bill, Jeffrey, Jessica, Evan and twenty great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Lionel passed peacefully away after a long battle with lung disease. He was born in Wesleyville and married to his loving wife Emily for 69 years. He worked as a butcher at the Old Army Side and continued working at the Gander Airport as a chef and baker where he retired after 42 years. His flair for baking was enjoyed by everyone. Lionel loved hunting, fishing, working in his vegetable garden and cutting fire wood. He will be greatly missed by his devoted wife and family; who will be forever grateful for his wonderful neighbors, extended family, caregivers and friends. The family sincerely thanks the Salvation Army Church, Stacey’s Funeral Home, and the staff at James Paton Memorial for their compassionate care. Rested at Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander on Monday December 17, 2012 from 7:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. and Tuesday December 18, 2012 from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. and 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. Funeral service was held on Wednesday December 19th, 2012 from the Salvation Army Church, Gander. Interment will be at the All Saints Cemetery. Donation’s in Lionel’s memory may be made to the Lung Association. Arrangements entrusted through Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander.
