Herbert 'Bert' Fraser
Lieu de naissance : Reserve Mines
Date de décès : 10 janvier 2013
It is with extremely heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Herbert ‘Bert’ Sheldon Fraser on Jan. 10, 2013 at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Reserve Mines, he was a son of the late George and Mary (MacEachern) Fraser.
Bert was a miner, working in the 20, 26, Prince and Phalen Mines until his retirement.
A backyard mechanic at heart, Bert was happiest when he was tinkering with someone's car. He was the kind of man who extended his services and kindness to anyone and everyone.
Bert enjoyed a good game of pool and could be found at the Radio Club on Sundays with his constant companion and buddy Timmy Wilkinson shooting pool, laughing and hanging out with friends. He truly had a love for life and good times.
But Bert's main love was for his family. His love and affection for them was deep-rooted, unwavering and constant and he took great pride in watching his family grow, develop and change.
Bert is survived by his wife, the former Patricia ‘Patsy’ Slade; daughter, Sheri (Paul) McPhee, Glace Bay; son, Stephen, Alberta; brother, Alex (Donna), Reserve; grandchildren, Kayleigh, Vance, Lyla; step-grandchildren, Alisha and Kristen Somerton; several nieces and nephews; aunts, Bridget ‘Bibby’ Leblanc, Clara MacPhee; uncle, John Angus MacEachern.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Alton, George ‘Sonny’; sisters, Isabel King and Olive Vingar.
In keeping with Bert's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be offered Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. All are invited to join the family for a reception in St. Anthony's Parish Hall immediately following the burial.
Bert's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. O'Brien and the entire staff of the 3rd Floor of the Glace Bay Hospital for the professional care and attention given to Bert over the past years. Also, thanks and love to all family and friends for their never ending support and kindness. Your thoughtfulness and generosity will never be forgotten.
