BIECH, Otto, age 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the Herbert Integrated Health Care Facility. Otto is survived by his son, Howard (Donna) Biech; his daughters, Grace (Marvin) Poettcker, Carol (Alvin) Lautermilch; his son-in-law, Darrell Priebe; his sisters, Rita Bankier, Josephine Biech; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Frieda; his daughter, Judith Priebe; an infant granddaughter; his parents, Ewald and Emma Biech; his sisters, Irene Deobald, Margaret Mauer; and by a brother, Wesley Biech. Otto was born on November 9, 1918 on a farm in the Morse, SK area. He grew up and attended school in the same area. He was baptized and joined the Kelstern Mennonite Church in 1946. He married Frieda (Muller) in 1942, and they farmed together for years, followed by Otto working at the Hodgeville Co-Op. After several years they moved to Herbert where they operated a dry cleaning business. Later Otto worked at the Herbert Co-Op. In his retirement he enjoyed spectator sports such as hockey, curling, baseball and football. He took up wood working, designing and constructing projects for the family and mini golf courses. He also served in various capacities in church and was a member of the Gideons. Otto spent the past 10 years living in the Herbert Manor and most recently at the Herbert Integrated Health Care Facility. He expressed appreciation for the care he received in these facilities and that of Dr. Kassett. Otto faced the challenges of life with courage and optimism made possible by his steadfast faith in God. Otto will be missed by family, friends and those who knew and loved him. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 2:00 pm from the Mennonite Brethren Church, Herbert, SK with Rev. Ed Schmidt officiating. The pianist for the service was Ruth Newton with special music brought by Marie Schmidt singing, “In the Garden”. Tributes were brought by family and by the grandchildren. “Blessed Assurance” and “Standing On the Promises” were sung by the congregation under the direction of Marie Schmidt. The Private Family Interment Service preceded the Funeral Service and was held at the Herbert Cemetery, Herbert, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Kent and Tanya Ford, Clarence and Jody Biggart, Terris Priebe and Mike Poettcker. In memory of Otto Biech, donations made to the Gideons International would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
