Gertrude Bertha “Gertie” Cadwell, 74 formerly of Westville and Granton passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2013 in Bowmanville, Ontario.

Born in Granton on Dec. 19, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Roderick and Marie (MacKenzie) Chisholm.

Gert had a heart of gold and was a Mother figure to many. She had a glorious laugh that will be heard in our hearts forever. Gert had resided in Toronto for several years. She moved back to Pictou County seven years ago and recently returned to Ontario to reside in Bowmanville. She was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 35 Westville.

She will be sadly missed by daughter, Susan (William Ohrling), Bowmanville; a son Larry (Barb), Bowmanville; grand children, Brock, Mandy, Jason, Debra and Leanne; great grand children, Marlee, Xavier, Olive, Travis, and best friend and companion, Bill Larade. She is also survived by sisters, Sue Muir, Granton, and Shannon Hood (Mardy), Granton; a brother, Danny Chisolm (Anne), New Glasgow; sisters in law, Florence Marshall, Isabel Dooley, Elizabeth Baillie, Helen Hayes, Viola Price.

She was predeceased by her husband, Melvin “Buddy” Cadwell, a brother, Roddie “Sam” Chisholm.


Gert is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Tuesday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Her funeral service will be held 11 am Wednesday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with the Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating. Burial will be in the Auburn Cemetery, Westville. www.eaglesfuneralhome.ca
