It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gary Vardy announce his passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Monday, January 21, 2013 at the age of 74. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Elaine (nee Noseworthy); sons: Peter, Gary (Lorella) and Greg (Andrea); grandchildren: Cole, Luke, Brooke, Raine and Reese; brother Melvin (Jackie) of Pasadena and sister Ruth Bowering of Corner Brook. He is also survived by sisters-in-law: Annette Lange (Volker) of British Columbia, Roberta Vardy of Port Dover, Ontario and brothers-in-law: George Faulkner of St. John's and Fraser Stockley of Long Island, New York; as well as a large circle of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Lily Vardy; four brothers: Max, Ralph, Jack and Harvey; as well as four sisters: Trudy, Nell, Midge and Joan. Visitation will take place at Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark's Avenue, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place at St. Michael's and All Angels Anglican Church, Park Drive, at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25th, with the very Reverend Roberta Woodman officiating. Interment to follow at Mt. Patricia cemetery. Gary Vardy was known as a family man to all who knew him. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren deeply and created a special place in his heart for his son Peter who was born with Down's Syndrome. Due to his love and affection for Peter, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses - Adult Day Program.
