Edith Cavell Teskey (nee Stanway), dear wife, aunt, great aunt, stepmother, step-grandmother, step-great grandmother, and friend passed way in Etobicoke, Ontario, January 14, 2010, at the age of 94.
Edith was born November 12, 1915 in Sydney Mines, N.S. She received her
nursing training in Nova Scotia and Ontario and worked as a nurse in Ontario for over 30 years. Edith married Dr. Luke Teskey in 1974. She became closely knit to Luke’s three adult children and quickly became “grandma†to Luke’s 12 grandchildren and “great-grandma†to his 29 great-grandchildren. She had many happy years with her beloved Luke at home in Toronto, in Mexico and Florida. Edith was devoted to both her Stanway and Teskey families.
Edith’s Christian faith was central to her life and in the last days of her life she spoke fervently of it. Edith loved reading and music and delighted in sharing the lives of her family and many friends. Cape Breton was never far from her memory and heart.
Edith was predeceased by her parents (Enoch Stanway and Ellen Atherton), siblings (Reverend Enoch, William, Sidney, and Mary), sisters-in-law (Elizabeth Higham Stanway and Ada Teskey), her husband, her stepson Dr. Luke (Joan) Teskey and stepdaughter Margaret (Bill) Sager.
Survived by Luke’s youngest son, Judge Gordon (Pat) Teskey, and numerous other family members, Edith is fondly remembered for her generous spirit, warmth, and graciousness in never forgetting a Christmas or Birthday greeting to all her extended family. She will be most especially missed by nieces Nancy (Reverend Robert) Raymont and Dr. Nanciellen Davis (the late Dr. Ross Stanway) and granddaughter, Evelyn Marie (David) Roberts.
