It is with great sadness, we the family of John Gannon announce his peaceful passing on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010.
Born Jan. 23, 1953, in North Sydney, John was the son of the late Connie and Josephine (McGean) Gannon.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by sisters, Theresa (Steele) and Josephine (Steffens), as well as his brother, Donald, nephews, Christopher Gannon and Donald Steele.
John leaves behind his niece, Joanne McCormick (Mike), Sydney Mines; as well as nephews, Dr. Nelson Steffens, Michael Steffens, Mississauga, Ont., and Connie Gannon, Edmonton, Alta.
John was a gentle soul who was loved by all who knew him; he loved people, enjoyed music, dancing and was a big fan of hockey, who loved cheering on the Leafs and the Eagles. John enjoyed participating in sports especially bowling and for many years was an athlete with Special Olympics.
John spent many happy years among his friends at The Haley Street Adult Services Society and his former residence on Clyde Avenue.
A funeral mass will be celebrated for John on Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Thomas Valiaveetil officiating. Burial to take place at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to The Haley Street Adult Services Society.
