Hector Joseph MacNeil, 75, of Beaver Bank passed away Jan. 28, 2013, at home.
Born in West Boulardarie, Cape Breton, he was the son of the late Daniel and Florence (MacKinnon) MacNeil. In 1959, Hector came to Halifax and worked for Wm. Stairs Sons and Morrow, MacCulloch Building Supplies (Sackville), and then worked for himself as a mason and carpenter.
A man of great faith, Hector made friends easily. He enjoyed helping friends and neighbours, telling stories and jokes. Hector was a wonderful carpenter, an expert at the art of caning and loved music.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, M. Bernadine ‘Bernie’ (Cameron) MacNeil and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 31 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held in St. Ignatius RC Church, Bedford on Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 at 11 a.m. A reception will follow in the church hall. A memorial service and burial will be held at a later date in Cape Breton.
