Passed away peacefully at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Tuesday, January 29th, 2013 Roland Fredrick Goobie at the age of 86 years. Left to mourn his wife Jean (nee Hancock) of 62 years, his children: Barbara (Barry) Nichols, Randy (Sharon) Goobie, Lester (Doreen) Goobie, Linda Goobie (Gordon), Tony (Sandra) Goobie, his grandchildren: Kent (Taryn) Nichols, Krista (Graydon) Rodgers, Dean (Carolyn) Goobie, Bonnie Gobbie (Collin), David Masters, Kirk (Michelle) Goobie, Leslie (Andy) O'Neill, Penny (Dermon) Piercey, Barbie (Robert) Dawe, Vanessa Goobie (Greg) and Allie Goobie, his 17 great-grandchildren, his sisters: Mrs. Alice Goodyear, Mrs. Eliza Hussey, Mrs. Flora Thristen, his in-laws: Alex & Gladys Hancock, Viola & Clayton Hewlitt, Norman Legge, Leo & Hersey Clarke and Mrs. Lila Hancock, also leaves to mourn a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, family & friends. Roland was predeceased by his parents, Abraham & Annie Goobie, his siblings: Wesley Goobie, Edna Norris, Eldred Goobie, Beatrice Charleston, Mable Harris, sister-in-law; Lillian Legge, his brothers-in-law: Clouston Hancock, Wilson Goodyear, Gordon Hussey, Tom Norris and his mother & father-in-law, Alex & Phoebe Hancock. The family will be receiving family and friends from Parsons Funeral Home & Chapel 63 North Main Street, Deer Lake, NL, today Wednesday, January 30th, 2013, from the hours of 7 - 9 p.m. and continuing on Thursday, January 31st, 2013, from the hours of 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 pm. The funeral service will take place at St. Paul's United Church in Deer Lake, on Friday February 1st, 2013, at 2 p.m., Rev. Dr. Tony Newell officiating with the burial to follow at the United Church section of the Cemetery on Wight’s Road, Deer Lake, NL.
