Laura Williams
WILLIAMS, LAURA - It is with great sorrow that the family of Laura Williams announces her peaceful passing at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital on Monday, January 28, 2013 at the age of 88. Born in Moncton on January 23, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Alphonse and Jenny (Foster) Maillet. She dedicated her life to the service of God, being a volunteer and devout parishioner of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, where she was also a member of the Golden Age Club. Caring for others was her calling in life. From loving her family, to working 20 years as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre, to volunteering her time at the hospital for 10 years during her retirement, she did it with passion, zest and humor. In her spare time, Laura enjoyed gardening, playing cards with her family, and spending many summers at the cottage. She especially loved to travel, and spent several years making a yearly pilgrimage to Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré in Québec. She is survived by four generations of Williams’, her daughters: Lorraine McGraw (Lionel), Linda Arsenault (Don), Shirley Cormier (Val), Barbara Bourque (Jean-Guy), Brenda Cormier, Donna Holmes (Terry) and Sandy MacDougall (Mike) and her son, Gary (Claudette). She was the proud grandmother to 11 grandchildren: Danny, Debbie, Cindy, Tracey, Krista, Chantal, Stephanie, Patrick, Mathieu, Laura and Rebecca; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by siblings: Régina and Léo. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Milledge Williams, in 2003 after 60 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by infant daughter, Diane; her brothers: Edgar, Sanford and Alphonse; her sisters: Delia and Lorraine.
There will be no visitation at the family’s request. A funeral mass will be celebrated at the parish Notre-Dame-de-Grâce R.C. Church, 854 Mountain Road, Moncton, on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations to the N.B. Heart and Stroke Foundation in Laura’s honor would be appreciated by the family, or to any charity of the donor’s choice.
