MacPHAIL, VIRGINIA ELIZABETH - Virginia Elizabeth MacPhail, formerly of Fredericton, passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on January 28, 2013. Born on February 11, 1938 in Williamsburg, N.B., she was a daughter of the late Donald and Elsie (Merrill) Hossack. Virginia graduated from Fredericton High School in 1955 and began work with the Provincial Government. In 1961 Virginia married Allison MacPhail and they had four children, Peter, Elizabeth, Scott, and Andrew. From 1961 until 1975 Virginia and Allison lived in several cities across Canada and returned to Fredericton where they stayed until 1989 while their children completed their schooling. They then resumed their travel with Allison’s work to Alberta, British Columbia, San Francisco, and Boston until they retired to Fredericton in 2001 but Virginia never lost her love of travel. Besides her husband Allison, Virginia is survived by her sons Peter (Mary), Scott (Simone), and her grandchildren, Skene, Alexandra, Madeleine, Reid, Robyn, and Joseph. She is also survived by her sisters, Sylvia MacPhee, Mary Felszegi, Gloria Higgins, Jackie Libby, Kathy Davidson, and her brother Donald Merrill. Virginia was predeceased by her sisters Sheila Soucy and Joy Sinclair as well as her children Elizabeth MacPhail and Andrew MacPhail.
Visitation will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home, 160 York St., on Friday, February 1st, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's United Church on Saturday, February 2nd, 2013 at 2 pm with Rev. Kelly Higgins officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
