EDMONTON/COALBURN – It was with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Mabel Florence Green (nee Dickie) on January 16, 2010 in Edmonton, AB.
Born in Coalbun, she was a daughter of the late John and Ella Dickie.
Mabel was predeceased by her husband, Jack, in 1982, her parents, John and Ella, four brothers and sisters-in-law: Gordon (Margaret), Walter (Evelyn), McKeen (killed in action) and Boyd; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Blanche (George) Kehoe, Aileen (Art) McCulloch and Margaret (Lloyd) MacDonald.
Mabel is survived by one sister-in-law, Willah, many loving nieces and nephews and special friends whose friendships she maintained over the years.
Mabel cherished her family and returned home yearly to visit family and classmates. One may say she needed fresh Nova Scotia air to fortify herself for another year of living in the west.
Mabel left home at an early age to begin a career with the Bank of Nova Scotia. She transferred to many places including Montreal, New Glasgow, Dawson Creek and finally to the Jasper Place Branch in Edmonton. She loved her work and treated clients with fairness and respect. Mabel had an adventurous spirit that took her canoeing in the Yukon and driving dune buggies in Arizona. With her passion for traveling she visited many countries and holidayed whenever something new caught her attention. She enjoyed skiing, curling, golfing, card playing and sharing a good joke. Throughout her later life she fought with great determination the various illnesses that challenged her.
The family will receive friends from 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. A reception will follow the service in the funeral home. Burial will be in Castle Hill Cemetery, MacLellan’s Brook at a later date.
Donations in memory of Mabel may be made to St. John Presbyterian Church, MacLennan’s Mountain c/o Shirley Harper, RR 4 New Glasgow, NS, B2H 5C7 or a charity of your choice.
